Obtaining a New York Driver’s License

Step #1: Obtain a New York learners permit by taking the State written exam at a DMV office near you.

  • Once you have passed the state's written test, you will be issued a learners permit by the DMV.  You can begin your driving experience (at least 40 hours using learners permit) with an approved driving instructor, parent, legal guardian, or responsible adult who has signed for financial responsibility.

Step #2: Schedule from one (1) 45 minutes driving session with The Driving Team Inc.

  • Our instructors are experienced and patient.  They will help you to become familiar with different driving environments and basic driving maneuvers in a real-world environment.

  • Driving appointments can be scheduled over the telephone or in office. Plan Ahead! Expect longer completion times in the summer months.

  • Once you have completed the online course and 5 hours of pre-licensing course, you have completed the driver education requirement!

Step #3:  Schedule an appointment with The Driving Team instructor to obtain your driver's license.
